On 15 March, the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Susanna Terstal visited Lithuania at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Consultations with the Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė focused on prospects for the Middle East Peace Process, a more active role of the European Union in this process, and the latest developments in the region.
In the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, it was noted that Lithuania adhered to a consistent position on the Middle East Peace Process and continued to support the negotiated two-state solution that envisaged an independent State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel – the two states living side by side in peace and harmony.
"The European Union must be ready to engage more actively in a political dialogue with both sides of the conflict," said L. Linkevičius.
According to S. Terstal, Lithuania could also play a significant role in making progress in the Middle East Peace Process.
