Lithuania opens its Honorary Consulate in Frankfurt am Main
On 22 February, the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania was opened in Frankfurt am Main, the federal state of Hesse, Germany. The Honorary Consulate is headed by the new Honorary Consul of Lithuania Gabrielė Gylytė-Hein.
"Hesse has one of the best-performing economies among all the federal states in Germany and Frankfurt is Europe's leading financial center. Thus, the opening of the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in this city and in this state is a matter of utmost importance for Lithuania, which is a European leader in the financial technology field (FinTech). Three largest European FinTech centers are in London, Zurich, and Lithuania. No less important is a center of the Lithuanian culture in the federal state of Hesse – the Lithuanian High School (Privates Litauisches Gymnasium) that has more than 200 students,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also met with the Prime Minister of the Hessian State Volker Bouffier and the President of the Landtag of Hesse Boris Rhein.
Representatives of the Hessian State Government and Parliament praised Lithuania's achievements in the field of information technology and expressed their wish to exchange good practices in the implementation of IT solutions in the public services sector. The fields of financial technology, life sciences, and cyber security were identified as potential areas for cooperation. The German representatives also took interest in Lithuania's experience in developing citizens’ resilience to propaganda.
