Foreign Minister Landsbergis: We highly appreciate Norway's commitment to stand with us shoulder to shoulder, if Lithuania needs to be defended
On November 25, Lithuanian foreign minister Landsbergis and Norwegian foreign minister Huitfeldt visited Bardufoss, where they met with representatives of the Norwegian Armed Forces and visited Norwegian troops to be deployed to NATO's enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania.
"We are ready to stand with you shoulder to shoulder if Lithuania needs to be defended," said Major General Lars S. Lervik, Chief of the Norwegian Army.
Representatives of the Norwegian Armed Forces and Norwegian Intelligence Services briefed the ministers on the security situation in Europe and presented Norway's readiness to contribute to the security of Lithuania, in the region and on the entire European continent.
"I am honoured and grateful for the possibility to thank in person Norwegian soldiers, who were, are and will be protecting Lithuania. I also truly appreciate the solidarity of the Norwegian people. The visit to Bardufoss is one more undeniable proof that European security is our common responsibility," noted the head of Lithuanian diplomacy, summarising the visit.
Norwegian troops have participated in NATO's enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania since 2017.
