Landsbergis to visit Manila and Seoul

On April 23-26, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, is paying an official visit to the Philippines and a working visit to South Korea.

It’s the first visit of the Foreign Minister to the Philippines. Landsbergis will meet with President Ferdinand Romualdez “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Foreign Secretary Enrique A. Manalo, Secretaries of Energy, Trade and Industry, Manila Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, representatives from the Department of National Defense and the Business Association of the Philippines. The Lithuanian Embassy in Seoul will be inaugurated in South Korea, and meetings with the new South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and the heads of the companies managed by SK Group will take place.

On April 24, the Foreign Minister will meet Luc Véron, European Union Ambassador to the Philippines, and Robert Ewing, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Manila. Landsbergis will also meet with Foreign Secretary Enrique A. Manalo, with whom he will discuss bilateral relations between Lithuania and the Philippines, economic cooperation, and the security situation. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister will invite Manalo to attend this year’s international conference on economic coercion in Vilnius. 

On April 24, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy will also meet with President Ferdinand Romualdez “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The meeting will focus on strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and the Philippines, especially on opportunities for cooperation in economy, energy, and security. 

Later, in a meeting with the Philippine Secretary of Energy, the Foreign Minister will present Lithuania’s experience on the road to energy independence and propose cooperation in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. 

After the day’s visits, the Foreign Minister will meet with the Honorary Consul of Lithuania, Julia Netta Vildzius Peña, to discuss possibilities for further cooperation.

On April 25 in Manila, the Foreign Minister will meet with the Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry and Philippine Management Association members to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in high-tech sectors and invite him to come to Lithuania with a business delegation. A meeting with the Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines is scheduled on the same day. Landsbergis will tell him about Lithuania's experience in the fight against hybrid threats and the lessons learned in Ukraine and discuss the possibilities of security cooperation. Later, the Foreign Minister will meet with the Philippine Secretary of Information and Communication Technology, Ivan John Uy, to whom he will present Lithuania's experience and achievements in the field of digital transformation and offer to look for opportunities for cooperation.

On April 26, Landsbergis will discuss how to use the potential of cooperation in the fields of high technology, defence and infrastructure in a meeting with the Foreign Minister of South Korea, Cho Tae-yul. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania will also meet with the heads of companies managed by "SK Group" and discuss potential cooperation projects proposed by the company with Lithuania.
