Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “We must admit that we need Ukrainian victory. Otherwise, we will give a victory to Putin, which is a nightmare not only for Europe”

Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis participated in the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) forum “Winning the War: Winning the Peace”.

The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy discussed the growing importance of security issues in the Baltic Sea region, Central and Eastern Europe, and Lithuania’s role in supporting Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.

“Firstly, we need to change the narrative – we constantly say that we will stay with Ukraine for as long as needed. But we do not say much if we are not saying how long it is needed. We have to admit that we need Ukrainian victory. Otherwise, we will give a victory to Putin, which is a nightmare not only for Europe. We must react with all our strength, as we did at the beginning of the war and give Ukraine everything we can,” Landsbergis said.

The Minister also stressed the need to preserve transatlantic unity to achieve Kyiv’s victory as soon as possible: “We will need enough mutual trust between partners and allies to withstand political pressures here, in Europe, and in the United States. It is what our community needs.”

On 26-29 September, the forum “Winning the War: Winning the Peace” is focusing on the importance of the international response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, ways to bolster collective security and turn unity into action.
